Are you interested in membrane technology? Would you like to work on developing and characterizing membranes for various applications such as water purification, gas separation, or separation of organic compounds? Do you have a passion for chemistry? EMI Twente is an independent R&D organization conducting research projects in membrane technology for, and in collaboration with industrial and academic partners around the world.
Our projects are hands-on and combine materials science, chemistry, process technology, and process automation. You’ll join a team of membrane researchers, and you will work both independently and in teams on research projects.

  • Develop new membranes (spinning and coating) and characterize them using techniques such as SEM, tensile testing, viscosity, and permeability measurements.
  • Analyze and interpret your results together with or under the supervision of a senior team member.
  • Maintain and manage lab equipment; for new projects, you may help build or adapt setups (with guidance as needed).
  • Work both in the lab and in the office, where you process and report your findings.

Your profile

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree (HBO level) in a chemical discipline such as chemical engineering, laboratory sciences, or polymer science.
  • Recent graduates are welcome to apply; experience with membranes is an advantage.
  • You enjoy hands-on laboratory work.
  • You are creative, show initiative, and like to get things done.
  • You work well in a team, can plan your own work effectively, and communicate your results clearly.
  • You work safely and neatly according to SOPs and document your work consistently.
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in Dutch is an advantage.
