Hollow fiber spinlines
In the past 30 years we have delivered various custom-designed spinning machines. The spinning lines are available in different size
A compact benchtop for recipe development
Fitting in a standard walk-in fume hood and working with small amounts of polymer solution (e.g. 100 mL), this system is ideal for checking feasibility or working with experimental polymers.
A R&D system for screening spinning parameters
Our R&D systems are perfectly fine for screening and optimizing spinning parameters whilst still having a relatively small footprint. Depending on your needs, these could include dual layer spinning, winding capabilities or longer rinsing times. Usually dope amounts are up to 1 L.
A lab-scale system for fabricating larger batches of fibers of consistent quality
Our full scale lab systems allow for larger scale spinning trials in order to produce sufficient fiber for a proof of concept module. Having larger vessels, good process control and winding capabilities these systems can spin easily multiple kilometers per day. These systems can be fully customized based on needs (number of nozzles, bath depth, sizing of the vessels; up to 10L, residence times, etc. etc.).

Electrodialysis cells
We have developed 6-compartment cell and permselectivity cell setups in-house. These analysis cells are essential to perform accurate measurement of the resistance and permselectivity of individual ion-exchange membranes. They are designed in such a way that a minimal membrane area is required for testing, which makes them ideal for early screening of ion-exchange membrane films.

Filtration systems
Large, small, water, solvents, it does not matter. We have expertise on all processes and can build a tailored system for you. We have designed several lab-scale testing set-ups for the filtration of both water and gasses. For gasses, both single gas setups for quick screening as well as multiple gas setups for more elaborate tests are in our portfolio. For water filtration, this varies from single-fiber modules to pilot-scale nanofiltration and reverse osmosis systems.
Other services offered
Potting centrifuges
Our potting centrifuge can be used to fabricate pilot-scale modules. Due to the dynamic operation, both module ends can be coated at the same time, and an even potting is created. The potting centrifuge that we have available in house can be used to produce modules up to 6 inches in diameter and 1.20 m in length. These specifications can be customized to your demands for custom-built equipment.
Gas permeation
At EMI, we specialize in identifying the intrinsic separation characteristics of membrane materials and evaluating their gas separation performance across various forms. Whether for research and development or production applications, our advanced systems are designed for precise characterization and testing. We offer a range of design concepts based on Constant Volume-Variable Pressure and Constant Pressure-Variable Volume methods, providing tailored solutions for different testing needs. Our gas permeation systems are capable of characterizing dense films, asymmetric films, and asymmetric hollow fiber membranes.
Our flexible concepts include options such as quick scanning of experimental hollow fibers at low pressure, single or mixed gas permeation measurements for dense films, and testing permeation performance with water vapor present in the feed stream. Whatever your specific requirements, our systems can be customized to meet your exact needs.
Gas mixing and boosting
In addition to general screening of gas separation membranes using standard gases like CO2 and nitrogen, we also provide testing capabilities for more complex gas mixtures. Our custom-designed gas mixing and boosting system enables precise mixing of up to three gases simultaneously, offering flexibility for various application needs. This setup can be directly integrated with our gas permeation systems and supports operation at pressures up to 64 barG, ensuring accurate and reliable testing under a range of conditions.
