During the third installment of our webinar series, we’re diving into the development of polymeric membranes. In this session, we will focus on membrane development through nonsolvent induced phase separation, also known as NIPS. NIPS is one of the most widely used methods to prepare polymeric membranes. However, understanding how formulation, phase behaviour and processing conditions influence membrane structure is essential when moving from an idea to a membrane that performs well in practice.
The webinar will consist of two parts:
Dr. Tjerk Watt, researcher at EMI Twente, will introduce the fundamentals of NIPS. He will explain the terminology, the ternary phase diagram and how these concepts relate to membrane structure and performance.
Dr. Kristianne Tempelman-Bolt will then connect the theory to practice through a case study from a real membrane development project. This part will demonstrate how membrane development decisions are made in an applied research setting.
This webinar will be an entry-level discussion and is ideal for R&D scientists, membrane developers, polymer specialists, process engineers and professionals who want to better understand how polymeric membranes are developed.
